A visit to Erdenet Copper Industry, which is the largest factory in Mongolia, producing more than half of the country’s total exports, is a unique experience. Natural beauties in central Mongolian mountain steppe and South Gobi are enriched with cultural and learning experiences. You are visiting some of the largest Buddhist monasteries and seeing the best preserved remains of pre-historic life; dinosaur trails and petrified woods.

TOUR ITINERARY:

Day 1 Ulaanbaatar – Terelj National Park
Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar you are transferred to Terelj National Park, a beautiful valley settled in western part of Khan Khentii Protected Area. Today we are having some exciting cultural experiences of Mongolian nomads by dismantling and building a Mongolian ger dwelling under the instruction of local people and taking an archery lesson. In the afternoon we are enjoying horse riding along the beautiful valley for an hour or so. Overnight in gers at Terelj Lodge.

Day 2 Ulaanbaatar – Erdenet
After breakfast at the ger camp, transfer to Ulaanbaatar by car. We are having a full-day city tour. After having lunch in a restaurant, we are visiting Sukhbaatar square, the largest Buddhist Monastery in Mongolia – Gandan Temple and the Natural History Museum with awesome dinosaur displays. In the evening take the overnight train to Erdenet, the third largest city of Mongolia. Erdenet was established only 30 years ago for the exploration of the largest copper molybdenum deposit in Mongolia.

Day 3 Erdenet – Amarbayasgalant Monastery, Selenge Province
After we arrive in Erdenet, our 4WD jeep will meet us at the train station. After having a breakfast in a local restaurant or café in Erdenet, we visit the Erdenet Copper Enrichment Factory. After lunch in Erdenet, drive north east to Amarbayasgalant Monastery located in a beautiful green valley of Selenge province. Amarbayasgalant Monastery is composed of a large temple, which is a fantastic example of Buddhist architecture where there is no single nail is used in its construction. Overnight in ger camp nearby.

Day 4 Selenge province – Ugii Nuur Lake, Arkhangai province
Today we are driving across the province of Bulgan to arrive in Ugii Nuur Lake in eastern tip of Arkhangai (Northern Khangai) province. The small beautiful lake is rich in fish and bird life is abundant in springs and autumns. Optional boating and fishing at the lake and overnight in Ogii Nuur ger camp on the shore of the lake.

Day 5 Ogii Nuur Lake – Tsetserleg town – Tsenkher Jiguur hot spa
We are driving further west via Taikhar rock – mysterious rock standing in the middle of steppe and Tsetserleg town, a beautiful small town on the slope of Bulgan Mountain. After visiting Zaya Gegeen Temple in Tsetserleg we continue our drive to Tsenkher Jiguur hot spa. Enjoy medical hot spa in the evening and overnight in ger camp.

Day 6 Tsenkher Jiguur - Tuvkhun Khiid – Karakorum, Uvurkhangai province
Today we are visiting Tuvkhun Khiid, a beautiful temple standing in high altitudes of Khangai Mountains. Tuvkhun Khiid was first established by Mongolia’s first religious ruler Undur Gegeen Zanabazar and had served as his meditation temple. There are a number of interesting sights related to the life of Zanabazar at the temple including the cave he meditated in. Then we continue our excursion to Orkhon waterfall today, where we will have our lunch in a camp nearby. Then drive to Karakorum, the ancient capital city of Mongolia. Overnight in ger camp.

Day 7 Karakorum – Ongiin river, Middle Gobi province
In the morning we are visiting Erdenezuu Monastery, the second largest Buddhist temple in Mongolia then continue our expedition south into Gobi Desert. After 7-08 hours drive with packed lunch on the way we are arriving Ongiin river sight where we will spend the night in a ger camp.

Day 8 Ongiin River – Dalanzadgad area, South Gobi Desert
Continue driving further south the South Gobi. On the way to our camp we are visiting Bayanzag Flaming cliffs, a famous sight of dinosaur exploration first explored by American scientist Roy Chapman Andrews in the 1920’s and Moltsog els sand dunes.

Day 9 Khanbogd soum, South Gobi Province
In the morning we are having an excursion to the fascinating sight Yoliin Am Valley, a narrow canyon in the Gobi where ice remains until the summer and the Gobi Natural History Museum. Then we continue our 4wd expedition eastwards to Khanbogd soum, where there is the largest copper and gold deposit of Mongolia has recently been discovered. Overnight in ger camp near the mining exploration site.

Day 10 Khanbogd – Sainshand Area, East Gobi province
Today is a long day as we are driving for about 400 kilometers along the plains of Gobi desert from South Gobi to East Gobi. We are exploring some very interesting prehistoric sights: including traces of ancient dinosaurs in Manlai soum and Suikhent Petrified Forest aged 65-90 million years. In the evening we arrive in ger camp located near trans Siberian railway line heading southwards to China. Overnight at Burdene Bulag camp.

Day 11 Sainshand – Khuren Dukh, Middle Gobi province
Today we are driving toward Ulaanbaatar as our overland expedition to the northern, central and southern part of Mongolia nears its end. Drive to Khuren Dukh via Khamariin Hiid Monastery, which as established by 19th century charismatic religious leader of Gobi Danzanravjaa, who was also an exciting poet and playwright and Sainshand, the central town of East Gobi province.

Day 12 Khuren Dukh – Ulaanbaatar
Drive further north to arrive in Ulaanbaatar in the afternoon. Relaxing time and overnight in hotel. In the evening we are attending Mongolian folklore performance.

Day 13 Departure from Ulaanbaatar
Transfer to airport or train station for departure.
